The EIA reported a build of +5,457 MBbls in U.S. crude-oil inventories. The build was larger than the average estimate of +216 as reported by Bloomberg.
Prices were up in the five minutes following the announcement, to $89.23 from $88.59 just before 09:30 AM.
Inventories for the U.S. are now at a up of 6.80 MMBbls (-1.6%) to last year, and a deficit of 23.60 MMBbls (-5.2%) to the five-year average.
