The EIA reported a build of +9,879 MBbls in U.S. crude-oil inventories. The build was larger than the average estimate of +1,068 as reported by Bloomberg.
Prices were up in the five minutes following the announcement, to $87.57 from $87.44 just before 10:00 AM.
Inventories for the U.S. are now at a surplus of 13.00 MMBbls (3.0%) to last year and a deficit of 4.80 MMBbls (-1.1%) to the five-year average.
