China’s hunt for bauxite ore ramps up. |
||
Bauxite is the ore from which aluminum is produced. According to government data, in 2020, approximately 97% of China bauxite imports came from three countries (Guinea, Australia and Indonesia). Bauxite imports might reach 130 million tons in 2022, up from around 110 million tons in 2021, according to Bloomberg and other analysts. China’s bauxite production has dropped since 2018 as resources have depleted and environmental controls have been put in place. China is seeking to increase imports and obtain foreign mining operations. (12/13/2021) |
