American steel imports in 2021 outpace 2020. |
||
Data released by the US Census Bureau last week showed that through October 31, US had imported approximately 22.5 MMT of steel in 2021. In 2020, the US had imported approximately 16.4 MMT of steel as of that date. Imports from Canada, our largest supplier, are up by nearly 2 MMT (approximately 5.9 MMT as of October 31, 2021, vs 3.9 MMT as of October 31, 2020). High demand and record import prices have fueled the flood of imports into the US. (1/4/2022) |
