COVID-related costs for Teck Resources’ Quebrada Blanca Phase 2 copper mine expansion will now cost between $900 million to $1.1 billion, up from their previous estimate of $600 million, according to mining.com. The company cites higher diesel prices, absenteeism and labor inefficiencies, and higher supply costs. Production is slated to begin later this year and is estimated to be 300,000 mt of copper per year by 2023. Another expansion plan, which would double production to be 600,000 mt per year, is also being studied. The second expansion would make it the world’s second-largest copper mine. (1/31/2022) |
