An explosion and subsequent shutdown occurred at one of China’s largest aluminum smelters last Thursday night. Thism in part, led to aluminum prices rallying on Friday. According to data from the Chinese government, aluminum production has dropped in recent months due to high electricity costs. Further prolonged shutdowns may prop up aluminum prices in China and at the LME. (11/22/2021) |
